Home Secretary the government has unveiled what is being called the biggest changes to combat unauthorized immigration "in recent history".

The proposed measures, patterned after the more rigorous system implemented by Denmark's centre-left government, makes refugee status provisional, limits the legal challenge options and includes visa bans on nations that refuse repatriation.

Refugee Status to Become Temporary

Those receiving refugee status in the UK will only be allowed to reside in the country temporarily, with their case evaluated at two-and-a-half-year intervals.

This means people could be repatriated to their native land if it is deemed "safe".

The system echoes the method in the Scandinavian country, where refugees get two-year permits and must reapply when they end.

The government claims it has commenced helping people to go back to Syria willingly, following the overthrow of the Assad regime.

It will now start exploring forced returns to the region and other nations where people have not routinely been removed to in recent years.

Asylum recipients will also need to be living in the UK for two decades before they can apply for permanent residence - raised from the existing five years.

At the same time, the administration will establish a new "work and study" immigration pathway, and encourage protected persons to find employment or start studying in order to move to this route and qualify for residency faster.

Exclusively persons on this work and study route will be able to sponsor relatives to join them in the UK.

Human Rights Law Overhaul

Authorities also plans to end the practice of allowing numerous reviews in asylum cases and introducing instead a comprehensive assessment where each basis must be presented simultaneously.

A recently established appeals body will be formed, staffed by trained adjudicators and backed by preliminary guidance.

For this purpose, the administration will introduce a legislation to alter how the family protection under Article 8 of the European human rights charter is implemented in migration court cases.

Exclusively persons with immediate relatives, like minors or guardians, will be able to remain in the UK in the years ahead.

A greater weight will be given to the national interest in deporting international criminals and people who came unlawfully.

The authorities will also restrict the application of Clause 3 of the ECHR, which prohibits undignified handling.

Ministers say the present understanding of the legislation allows multiple appeals against refusals for asylum - including dangerous offenders having their removal prevented because their treatment necessities cannot be addressed.

The human exploitation law will be tightened to restrict last‑minute exploitation allegations employed to prevent returns by mandating asylum seekers to disclose all pertinent details promptly.

Ending Housing and Financial Support

Government authorities will revoke the legal duty to provide refugee applicants with assistance, terminating certain lodging and regular payments.

Aid would continue to be offered for "those who are destitute" but will be withheld from those with work authorization who decline to, and from individuals who break the law or defy removal directions.

Those who "purposefully render themselves penniless" will also be refused assistance.

As per the scheme, refugee applicants with property will be compelled to help pay for the expense of their housing.

This mirrors that country's system where asylum seekers must employ resources to pay for their housing and authorities can take possessions at the customs.

UK government sources have dismissed seizing emotional possessions like marriage bands, but government representatives have proposed that cars and e-bikes could be subject to seizure.
