Football Expert Sutton Battles Singer Olly Murs in Top Flight Forecasts

The Gunners' ten-match winning streak was ended by the Black Cats prior to the global break, however can the English top division leaders recover against local foes Tottenham this weekend?

"{I feel like Arsenal are light years ahead of Tottenham currently but Spurs boss Thomas Frank will have a strategy for this match," stated football expert Chris Sutton.

"Frank will attempt to nullify Arsenal, who have not always been at their sparkling finest this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's side usually still find a way to win."

Sutton is forecasting results for all 380 Premier League fixtures this term, against artificial intelligence, readers and a range of guests.

For the twelfth round, he faces singer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United supporter.

The singer's latest record, Knees Up, is available on Friday.

Football and Family Life

Olly is a skilled soccer player as well as a successful artist and has been a featured player of multiple Soccer Aid games down the years - but he is not planning a professional comeback as a footballer.

"{I actually played in a charity game the other evening for a friend of mine," he said. "My side was trailing 3-1 when I was substituted in the second half, and they went on to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you will!

"I still love football, but I injured my knee a few years ago and it even now isn't where I want it to be. I hope I could play more but the unpredictability of the sport means it's too dangerous for me in my profession to do it seriously again.

"Plus I am forty-one now, and we are not everyone is Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very content not playing football and I am preparing for the time that my daughter or boy chooses to play instead."

Murs and his wife his partner have two children, Madison and Albert, and he is prepared to emulate his dad by becoming their coach.

"I won't push football on our children but I've previously told Amelia that if they do get the bug for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will likely be coaching their Saturday football team," he added.

"I watched my nephews play a lot, and I really got into it, and I obviously was involved with a soccer team for a while too.

"My dad coached with us when I was a child, which is likely where I inherited it. He managed our team for two or three seasons and had a wonderful time with it. That might be the next step for me as well, and I am excited to it!"

Premier League Predictions

Saturday, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea might have to be patient for Cole Palmer's return from fitness issues but their offense is already stronger with Pedro and Delap both returned to fitness.

I still think this fixture will be fairly close, though. Burnley are well organised and their only home losses so far have been against the Reds and Arsenal.

This smells of a one-all tie to me, but I am actually going to go with Chelsea to win narrowly for what would be their third Premier League win in a row.

Sutton's prediction: 1-2

The singer's pick: Chelsea will be superior. 1-3

AI's outlook: 0-2

Bournemouth have been defeated in their previous couple games - although both of them were away - but they got thoroughly beaten by Aston Villa last time out which surprised me.

In contrast, West Ham won back-to-back victories before the international break and, although both of those games were at their stadium, they do look competitive again.

West Ham's only away win this season came at Forest in August, when West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo was still Forest manager.

So, what on earth do I predict here - can West Ham continuing their run under Nuno, or Bournemouth responding?

I am going to choose Bournemouth, because I think what happened against Villa was a blip.

Sutton's prediction: 2-0

Olly's outlook: The home team are doing well but the visitors have picked up under Nuno. 2-2

AI's prediction: 1-1

Brentford were seen as one of the favourites for relegation before the campaign started, but they have impressed a several people under their manager and are in fine fettle with three in their last four games.

My son told me to get Brentford striker Igor Thiago in my fantasy soccer team a few weeks ago and, unfortunately, I didn't listen.

The forward will likely find the net again on the weekend but I am still not going to pick him or back Brentford at Brighton's ground.

The Bees have not had great fortune on the travel this term, and Brighton are always strong at their stadium. The visitors will try to attack on the counter-attack but I think the home manager's side carry much more of a danger.

Sutton's forecast: 2-1

Olly's prediction: This could be a match where you think there is going to be a lot of goals but it actually proves to be rather close. 1-1

AI's prediction: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a huge game for the Cottagers, who have lost five of their past six matches.

Fulham have got lots of quality in their squad but it still feels like they could be sucked into a drop zone battle.

As for the Black Cats, well they are the surprise package of the Premier League season so far.

Their display in the two-all tie with the Gunners last time out was excellent. We've not witnessed any other team disrupt the Gunners like that this term, and Sunderland were more than a match for them.

The logical choice to do to support the Black Cats here, because they are obviously capable of disrupting Fulham up too and, the last time they were in this part of London, they beat the Blues at the end of October.

However I am not going to do that. Rather, I truly need to carry on going against Sunderland with my forecasts. I am claiming a lot of responsibility for their positive results because they clearly love to defy my predictions.

Looking at Fulham's at Craven Cottage form, the sole side they have lost to is Arsenal. Marco Silva's team will be absolutely desperate for a positive outcome, so I am going to predict they will pick up three points.

Sutton's forecast: 1-0

The guest's choice: I'm aware the visitors are performing strongly and additionally that Fulham are on a bad run... but Fulham have nonetheless been respectable at home this campaign. 2-0

The algorithm's prediction: 2-0

  • Anfield, 15:00 GMT

It is a hard one to predict. Liverpool have lost seven of their last ten games in all competitions, but could they be one of the sides who profit from the {international break|
