‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: Meg Ryan Shares Heartfelt Homage to Director Rob Reiner

The actress Meg Ryan has shared a moving homage to the late director Rob Reiner, who directed her in the beloved romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Tragic Discovery

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles at the weekend.

“Oh how we will miss this man…” Ryan shared on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan went on to write. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy released a message today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Colleagues and Friends Remember

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner with a statement shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” it read. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

A Storied Career

When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.

Reiner’s extensive filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
