Seamer Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Problems.

'Major setback' for England after Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems upon exiting the ground early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left leg immediately following a delivery in his spell on Saturday.

The touring camp stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and would spend time off the field to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the tour at the SCG begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has already lost key quicks Mark Wood due to knee trouble and another paceman because of a side injury on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, taking just three wickets.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman being one of only three teammates to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he came back on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Yet, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a change of pace to the batsman and promptly felt at his leg.

The English bowler returned to the side for the Melbourne match having missed the Adelaide game.
