Southern California Experiences Unprecedented Heat Just Days After Major Winter Weather.
In the wake of heavy downpours that caused flooding across areas in the city, LA is now seeing unusually warm weather for this time of year.
All-Time High Heat
On Friday midday, the temperature climbed to 91°F (33°C) in the city center, according to weather officials. This easily surpasses the previous daily record for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was set in the previous year.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on NWS charts for the region.
Public Health Warnings
Authorities issued a warning that Friday's conditions posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their recommendations suggested:
- Staying hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Not leaving anyone unattended in a car.
A Dramatic Reversal
This sharp rise in mercury arrives just after a massive storm system that pummeled the area recently. That storm brought high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to higher elevations, leading to flash flood warnings for countless residents.

Temperatures Easing
Looking ahead a cooldown will arrive. The heat were expected to drop to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown LA by Friday night.
Other locales that reached 90°F included Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Elsewhere, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were expected to reach the high 80s.
In the coming days, downtown LA can see readings in the 80s, with a further cooldown on tap for the week ahead.
