The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It feels like constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Will the showrunner Know the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.

“There are some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to abandon a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why mess with the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
