The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
