Unbowed Wilfried Nancy insists he is not worried about the sack but Celtic fans unleash fury following loss.
Wilfried Nancy declared he was not afraid of the sack, asserting, “The team is extremely close to a turnaround,” despite sliding worryingly close to the exit with a comprehensive defeat by Rangers.
Another Meltdown Sees Old Firm Defeat
Celtic were ahead their oldest rivals at the interval but a disastrous second period enabled Danny Röhl’s team to pull level on points with the current Scottish Premiership champions. The French coach, who was appointed from the MLS, has now presided over six defeats in eight fixtures.
“The board and I are united at the club,” stated the manager.
Questioned about his own future, he said: “That’s not my focus. I concentrate on finding ways to help my team to improve on the fine details.
Fan Fury On Display
The fans made their feelings clear – towards the hierarchy – by protesting at Parkhead. The board would be most likely to return to Martin O’Neill, who steered the club during a temporary stint before Nancy was hired, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“Wins and losses [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the truth for the moment. Yet when I say that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am a defeatist guy. Absolutely not. The message is the turnaround is near, extremely close to change the narrative.”
Focus on the Details
He highlights the fact his team can perform strongly for 45 minutes at a time. In fact, were it not for missed chances they could have been more than 1-0 up. “I saw enough except the fact that we haven’t scored more goals,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but I must remain balanced.
“The level we had at stages was really, really, really high. This is the reality. And I would not say that if it was not the case. But that’s why, in terms of results, I noted we've seen this before. That’s why I said that we are really close to getting it right. Right now: the fine margins.”
“We produced a lot of encouraging signs that we did, like today again. However is sustaining it. My narrative would be different the same. Therefore I firmly believe we’re going to be able to turn things around.”
Opposition Reaction Outlook
Danny Röhl played down talk of a championship push even after what appeared to be a huge result. “We take it game by game, so we can develop something here,” he said. “The faith in the group is outstanding.”
